Hello, my name is Mr. Martin, and I am excited to be your child’s Language Arts teacher this year! This is my twenty-ninth year in the Yough School District, and the majority of those years were dedicated to teaching 7th grade grammar, reading, and writing skills. 

This year in class we will focus on improving your child’s writing, grammar, and poetry skills. In addition, we will read a novel, The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, which will provide us with a fun and creative way to put all of the skills practiced throughout the year to use and help prepare students for the increased academic demands of the coming years. 

Although we have fun, I do expect my students to give me their best effort every day. I expect students to come into the room prepared with their computer, book, notebook, folder, pencil and homework every day. I grade tests, quizzes, projects, and homework on a point system that gets calculated into a percentage. Every nine weeks will have different graded items. 

We will use a new Reading/Language Arts textbook this year. Students will have both a physical textbook as well as an online version. This will all be tied in with Google Classroom. Once the year gets started, I would highly suggest getting your student’s login information so that you can periodically check what’s going on in their Google Classroom. I look forward to getting to know your child this year and being a part of their success.
